Network Code Settings

The network code settings in Band Code Definition control how cable network codes are to be used for stations assigned to the band code. In some options, such as Station Avails Entry and Affidavit Entry/Match, the network field will only display if the network code is defined in the Band Code Definition as required or optional. Since you must key the Nielsen defined network on the buy to post local cable, the Require Network Code setting for the cable band code should be set to Yes or Optional. Network codes are defined in Network Definition.

This is how the different settings effect the network code:

• If the Require Network Code setting is Yes and the Match on Network Code check box is Selected, then
   

  1. • Network code must be entered on the buy worksheet and in Affidavit Entry/Match.

     • Network code must be the same on the buy and the affidavit for a successful match

• If the Require Network Code setting is Yes and the Match on Network Code check box is Not Selected, then
   

  • • Network code must be entered on the buy worksheet and in Affidavit Entry/Match.

    • However, a successful match does not require the network code to be the same on the buy and the affidavit.

• If the Require Network Code setting is Optional and the Match on Network Code check box is Selected, then
   

  • • Network code may or may not be entered on the buy worksheet.

    • • If a network code is entered, the affidavit must have the same network code to match.

      • If the network code field is blank on the buy, the network code must also be blank on the affidavit to match.

      • If the network code field is initially left blank on the buy, a code may be entered later even if some spots on the buy item are matched to an affidavit.

• If the Require Network Code setting is Optional and the Match on Network Code check box is Not Selected, then
   

  • • Network code may or may not be entered on the buy worksheet.

    • Network code may or may not be entered in Affidavit Entry/Match, but has no effect on matching.

• If the Require Network Code setting is No (the Match on Network Code check box is not applicable), then  

  Network code may not be entered on the buy worksheet and may not be entered in Affidavit Entry/Match.

Notes  

• Network codes should only be entered on buys for local cable networks.

• Local cable ratings are only available from the Nov 03 book forward.
