The Job Component function allows different stages of a job to be broken down into stages for reporting and billing purposes without having to open multiple job numbers. For example, instead of opening a new job for a revision to artwork, you can assign a component to the existing job that allows you to track the charge or portion of the charge by the component for billing and reporting. Also, components are useful in cases where a component of a job is in dispute. Instead of delaying billing for the entire job, you can split the bill by components and bill those components not in dispute. Although use of job components allows separate reporting and billing by the different stages or pieces of a job, you may still track all the results under a single job number. Job Components are set up in Workflow|Maintenance|Definition and Production Maintenance|Job Maintenance|Enter/Change/Delete Jobs.
There are two levels to consider when referring to Job Components. The Job Level is the first level in the hierarchy and includes a Job and all detail information that is set up for the job when it is opened. The Job/Job Component level is the second level in the hierarchy and includes a Job and Job Component and all detail information that is set up for the job component under the specified job. Job Component detail can include a different Description, Subtype, Tax Method, Client P.O., Client Budget, etc. The system will not allow you to assign a different Jobtype, or Client to components of a job. Error and warning messages have been added throughout the system to inform you when you need to key a job component, when a job component should not be keyed, when job component descriptions have not been set up, when changes that are made at a Job Level only will affect the Job Component level, etc. You can decide what actions to take based on these messages.
