Using Variable Weeks

The Variable Weeks feature allows you to choose the day of the week to be the week beginning day (Week Start Day) for entering, reporting on and billing buys for a particular client and/or estimate.

You may choose to use the Variable Weeks function without any other setup than entering a different week beginning day on a client's buying profile and/or on an estimate. If you do not change the Week Start Day for a client or estimate, the system continues to use standard Broadcast weeks (Monday Week Start Day) for that client or estimate. The Week Start Day on the buying profile defaults to Monday and on the estimate it defaults to the Week Start Day on the Buying Profile.

When you create a new worksheet, the Week Start Day on the worksheet is determined as follows:

You may retrieve avails with any days pattern and load them into the worksheet, but you may not save the worksheet until the days patterns are correct for the buy. Likewise, when you open an existing worksheet, if the Week Start Day on the estimate has changed or if you are assigning a client and/or estimate with a different Week Start Day to the worksheet, you may open the worksheet but must correct the days pattern before you may save it. Refer to Entering Days of the Week.

In reports and inquiries the Week of dates columns are based on the Week Start Day. Unmatched spots are included in the report if any spots in the week could air during the requested dates based on the days pattern on the buy. Once spots are matched, they are reported in the standard broadcast month in which they actually ran. Report and column headings reflect the Week Start Day where applicable. On weekly reports, you may not combine estimates if the estimates have different Week Start Days. On all reports, weekly summary totals will only print if all the requested estimates have the same Week Start Day.

Since invoices from stations are always based on standard broadcast weeks/months, Affidavit Matching works slightly differently when you are using a Week Start Day other than Monday. If the Week Start Day on the buy is not Monday and you have spots ordered that could run in either of two broadcast months, you may successfully match an affidavit in the first month without matching it to spots that might air in the following month. However, you cannot successfully match both months without matching the spots in one of the months. Spots that could air in either month have a primary broadcast month of the first month and an Alternate Broadcast Month (ABM) of the following month. An ABM column has been added to some screens and reports to show the Alternate Broadcast Month.
